Location and GPS
How does NEMZIO find my property from a survey plan?
You don't need to know your property's latitude and longitude. Upload the survey plan and NEMZIO looks for:
- beacon or corner coordinates (latitude and longitude, or eastings and northings)
- bearings and distances between the beacons
- the plan number, plot, block, area, LGA and state, and the surveyor's details
You check it on the map. We show "We found location information" and the possible boundary. You choose: Yes, use this boundary, No, adjust it (you move the corners yourself), or Ask NEMZIO to review.
We don't guess the grid. Survey plans often use a national grid rather than GPS coordinates. NEMZIO converts them only when the plan says which grid it uses (or the plan and your property's state settle it). If it can't tell, the reading is marked as needing professional review and isn't drawn on the map.
What it doesn't prove. Reading coordinates from a plan doesn't prove ownership, title, the legal position of the boundary, that the document is genuine or that it was approved. A professional who reviews a reading records their reading of the plan; NEMZIO doesn't issue survey certificates. For legal boundaries, use a registered surveyor.
If the plan is a photo or a scan we can't read, you can type its coordinate table, draw the boundary, drop a pin, or ask us for help. You can always add or change the location later; visits already made keep the location they were checked against.
